A man was killed and another person was injured after two cars crashed in Wauconda Township late Sunday evening, sheriff’s officials said.

The Wauconda Fire District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 11 p.m. to Route 120 and Fisher Road in Wauconda Township for a report of a car crash with injuries and entrapment.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that a Ford Taurus was traveling eastbound on Route 120 in the area of Fisher Road. The driver of the Ford lost control and the vehicle slid sideways into the westbound lanes of traffic.

The Ford was struck on the passenger-side by a westbound Nissan Rogue, sheriff’s officials said.

Authorities said the driver of the Ford was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said that identity of the driver of the Ford is pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. An autopsy of the driver is being scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. Lake County Sheriff’s Crash Investigators were assisted by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and Lakemoor Police.
