The Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County is investigating a crash that left a 55-year-old man dead after he was struck by a carย in Fox Lake early Tuesday morning.

The Fox Lake Police Department and Fox Lake Fire Protection District was called at 7:44 a.m. to a report of a crash near Route 12 and Riverside Island Drive.

Police said that the crash involved a Saturn passenger car, driven by a 46-year old female, and a bicyclist, driven by a 55-year-old male. Authorities said that the Saturn was traveling southbound on Route 12 and the bicyclist was traveling in the center median of the roadway when the bicyclist was struck by the Saturn.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police officials said that no one else was injured.

The Lake County Coronerโ€™s Office is withholding the identification of the man killed in the crash pending notification to relatives.
