The McHenry County Coroner’s Office has identified the 22-year-old man who died after being ejected from a car during a crash Tuesday morning in McHenry.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Police Department were called at 12:21 a.m. to the 6900 block of Route 120 for a report of a single-vehicle crash with injuries.

First responders located the crash on Route 120 between Wonder Lake Road and Ringwood Road. A newer model Ford sedan had sustained heavy damage after crashing into a telephone pole.

Firefighters and paramedics located two victims, a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man. The 22-year-old man was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at 12:55 a.m. at Centegra Hospital – McHenry. The 20-year-old was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for investigation for several hours. It was re-opened at 4:40 a.m.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office said on Wednesday that the 22-year-old man, who was the passenger in the vehicle, was Wonder Lake resident Jose Luis Ortiz Reyes. An autopsy revealed that he died from blunt trauma to the chest and abdomen. Toxicology testing is pending.

The Northwest Herald reported that fire officials said there was no obvious cause of the crash at the scene. McHenry police are investigating.
