A former Deerfield pastor was given probation after he pleaded guilty on December 12 to sexual abuse charges that were filed against him in 2015, the Lake County News-Sun reported.

Samuel J. Kee, 41, of Lake Zurich, was charged in 2015 with criminal sexual abuse after he walked into the Deerfield Police Department and confessed to an “inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl” in the summer of 2014, the News-Sun reported.

Kee was a pastor for five years at the North Suburban Evangelical Free Church when he was charged. The girl was a member of the congregation.

Deerfield police said that Kee admitted to touching the girl in appropriate places on her body; however, he did not face any charges involving force.

Kee was arrested and held at the Lake County Jail for two days on a $300,000 bond before he was released after posting the required $30,000.

Lake County Judge Victoria Rossetti sentenced Kee on December 12 to two years of sex offender probation. Kee must also undergo evaluation and attend treatment programs as required by probation officials, perform 200 hours of public service, have no contact with minors, and must obey restrictions on his use of the internet, the News-Sun reported. He also faces random drug and alcohol testing.

Assistant State’s Attorney Jason Grindel said that the charges were dropped in exchange for a guilty plea.

If he fails to comply with the above restrictions, he could face 12 months of periodic imprisonment.
