A woman and her dog were rescued on Wednesday after falling into the water on Lake Michigan, fire officials said.

Emergency crews responded just after 3 p.m. to a report of a woman and her dog in the water at Forest Park Beach after a person saw and called 911.

Authorities said that the woman was out of the water on the icy rocks near the boat ramp when first responders arrived. Firefighters used a rope to secure and assist her up a ladder to a concrete walkway. The woman, a Lake Forest resident in her 50s, was then transported to Northwestern Medicine Lake Forest Hospital for treatment in good condition.

Fire officials said that the woman’s dog had gone into the water and she had tried to rescue it. The dog was transported by police to Animal Hospital of West Lake Forest.
