A 38-year-old Harvard man allegedly tried to burn down his house while two kids were upstairs, officials said.
The Northwest Herald reported that Joshua Widmayer, 38, of the 5700 block of Island Road in Harvard, was charged with arson, residential arson and child endangerment.
According to a court filed complaint, Widmayer tried setting his house on fire on December 8 by bringing in burning embers and spreading them on the kitchen counter and a chair.
The Harvard Fire Department was called to the scene in the 5700 block of Island Road. A woman had already extinguished the fire with a kitchen sink hose by the time firefighters arrived, the Northwest Herald reported.
Widmayer was arrested on December 15. His bond was set at $50,000 and he was released the next day after posting $5,000 bail.
No additional information has been released about the incident. Widmayer is scheduled to appear in court again on January 12.
