A Lake County Sheriff’s K-9 unit helped track down a man who robbed a convenience store in Crystal Lake early Saturday morning.

Crystal Lake Police were called to Open Pantry Food Mart, 4811 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake, just after 2 a.m. for a report of a robbery. Police were told by the clerk that a man entered the store and demanded money and merchandise. No one was injured during the robbery and the man fled on foot.

Crystal Lake Police and a K-9 unit from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office tracked the suspect to his home in a neighborhood a mile away.

“K-9 Dax and Deputy Forlenza responded. They tracked the scent of the offender for nearly a mile and successfully located him! He was taken into custody without further incident!” the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook.

Police arrested Joshua D. Wilson, 32, of Crystal Lake. He was charged with robbery and burglary, which are both class 2 felonies.

Wilson was transported to the McHenry County Jail to await a bond hearing. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 1.

Police said that Wilson was not armed during the robbery. The Crystal Lake Police Department said that the robbery is still under investigation.
