A 78-year-old Arlington Heights woman is dead and a 62-year-old woman was injured after a head-on crash in Long Grove Thursday night.
Authorities said that a Lake County Sheriffโs deputy on patrol at 11:15 p.m. discovered a serious car crash on Route 83 just north of Route 22 in Long Grove.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that a 2015 Subaru Outback, driven by a 78-year-old woman of Arlington Heights, was traveling northbound on Route 83. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Subaru lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center median and struck a southbound 2004 Jeep Liberty, driven by a 62-year-old woman of Vernon Township.
The driver of the Subaru was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.ย The driver of the Jeep was transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life threatening injuries.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District and the Lake County Coronerโs Office responded to the scene. The Lake County Coronerโs Office will conduct an autopsy on the 78-year-old woman Friday morning.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team also assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriffโs Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
