A 78-year-old Arlington Heights woman who died after a head-on crash in Long Grove Thursday night has been identified by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Authorities said that a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol at 11:15 p.m. discovered a serious car crash on Route 83 just north of Route 22 in Long Grove.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that a 2004 Jeep Liberty, driven by Elaine McGovern, 78, of Arlington Heights, was traveling northbound on Route 83. For an unknown reason, McGovern lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center median and struck a southbound 2015 Subaru Outback, driven by a 62-year-old woman of Vernon Township.
McGovern was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru was transported by ambulance to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life threatening injuries.
The Long Grove Fire Protection District and the Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. The Lake County Coroner’s Office said that an autopsy on McGovern showed she died from multiple traumatic injuries from the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team also assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
