An 85-year-old man riding on a bicycle was struck and killed by a pickup truck Monday night in Mundelein.
Mundelein police said that at 7:10 p.m. an 87-year-old man from unincorporated Grayslake was riding southbound with the flow of traffic on Midlothian Road on a bicycle. According to witnesses, the bicyclist swerved into the lane of traffic to cross the street when a pickup truck hit him.
Firefighters and paramedics responded quickly since the crash happened near a Mundelein fire station at 1000 North Midlothian Road. The man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Police said that the driver of the pickup truck, driven by a 19-year-old, has been cooperative with the investigation and the driver has not been charged or given any citations.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called to the scene to help investigate. Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper has not yet released the man’s name because the family has not yet been notified.
