Three people were transported to the hospital after an early morning fire in Lake Villa township on Monday.

The Lake Villa Fire Protection District was called at 1:32 a.m. to a report of a house on fire at 37483 North Route 59 in unincorporated Lake Villa.

When fire crews arrived they found heavy fire showing from the front of the house.

A woman, who suffered smoke inhalation and burns, and two men, who suffered smoke inhalation, were transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. One of the victims was later transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

The fire is under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal, Lake Villa Fire Protection District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office. The fire appeared to have started in the basement before spreading to the first floor. Fire officials said that the first floor collapsed into the basement.

Firefighters from Fox Lake, Antioch, Round Lake and Gurnee assisted the Lake Villa Fire Protection District.
