David P. Ready, 53, of Crystal Lake was arrested after police found him to be in possession of more than 500 grams of marijuana

While Crystal Lake police were investigating an attempted home break in on Monday, they arrested a man, not related to the break in, who was found in possession of 500 grams of marijuana.

Crystal Lake police were called at 8:40 p.m. on Monday to 26 East Crystal Lake Avenue, Apartment A, after someone called 911 call to report a man who tried to force entry into the residence. Police arrived and found a 52-year-old female resident and her 34-year-old female friend inside the residence, unharmed, police said.

Police said that the suspect is known to the 52-year-old woman and that it was a domestic violence incident. The suspect was not able to get into the apartment and had fled the scene before police got there, authorities said.

While police officers were on the scene investigating the original incident, “evidence was discovered indicating illegal narcotics were present within the residence,” the Crystal Lake Police Department said.

A search warrant for the residence was obtained and executed. During the search, police officers found another resident, identified as David P. Ready, 53, hiding in a locked bedroom. He was wanted on a failure to appear arrest warrant for driving violations in Kane County.

During the search, police officers found more than 500 grams of marijuana in Ready’s bedroom along with several marijuana sativa plants in production stages and other drug evidence, police said.

Ready was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle and unlawful production of cannabis sativa plants.

Ready was transported to the McHenry County Jail where he currently remains held pending a bond hearing.

Police said the drug investigation continues and additional charges and arrests are pending. Police did not say if the suspect in the original incident had been arrested or not.
