A Mundelein High School student has been charged with disorderly conduct after officials said that the student brought a BB gun to school.
Police were called at 1:42 p.m. on Monday for a report of a student who had what appeared to be a handgun. The school was put on soft lockdown for 20 minutes while officers investigated.
School officials said that during passing period a boy pulled out a BB gun in a bathroom and showed it to other students. One of the students then told security about it.
Mundelein High School officials said that the suspect student was located and a BB gun was found in his possession.
“At no point in time were students or staff in any danger. We thank the student for coming forward and the staff for their immediate cooperation,” officials said in a statement.
Police said that they found nothing to indicate the student planned to shoot the BB gun. The boy was charged with disorderly conduct and referred to the Lake County juvenile court. The name or age of the student has not been released.
