A 29-year-old North Chicago man was killed after being hit by a Metra train on Tuesday, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said.

The North Chicago Police Department, North Chicago Fire Department and Metra Police Department responded around 6 p.m. to a train that hit a pedestrian near the North Chicago Metra Station, 1633 Lakeside Avenue.

The pedestrian was struck by Union Pacific-North Line train number 341 after the man tried crossing the pedestrian walkway.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old North Chicago man Tracey Currie, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that an investigation into how his death occurred is ongoing but confirmed that Currie died from injuries sustained after being hit by the train.

“His family has been notified and our deepest condolences go out to them,” Dr. Cooper said. Toxicology testing is pending.
