A 48-year-old woman in the McHenry County Jail died after being transported to the hospital with abdominal pain late Tuesday evening.

Jody T. Fortino, 48, of Spring Grove, was pronounced dead at 1 a.m. on Wednesday after being transported to Centegra Hospital – McHenry hours earlier.

The McHenry County Coroner’s Office said that Fortino was an inmate at the McHenry County Jail. She was transported to the hospital for an evaluation after complaining of abdominal pain.

McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne L. Majewski said a preliminary autopsy report revealed “the presence of a perforated duodenal ulcer with spillage of fecal contents into the abdominal cavity.”

Dr. Majewski said that no evidence of foul play or trauma was found. The final cause and manner of death will be released after toxicology testing is done.

The death remains under investigation by the Major Investigative Assistance Team and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
