Ryan P. Vela, 33, of Arlington Heights

An Arlington Heights man wanted for a sexual assault in Vernon Hills was arrested on a warrant Friday, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals arrested Ryan P. Vela, 33, of the 1700 block of East Shannon Lane in Arlington Heights, on Friday. Vela was wanted on a warrant issued on February 13 for a criminal sexual assault charge following an investigation by the Vernon Hills Police Department.

U.S. Marshals began conducting surveillance on Vela at several locations on Tuesday, officials said.

On Friday, U.S. Marshals conducted surveillance at Vela’s residence in Arlington Heights and saw him arrive, exit a vehicle and enter the residence, sheriff’s officials said.

“After numerous attempts to gain the cooperation of the residents inside failed, Task Force Officers breached the front door and immediately identified voices coming from the top of the stairs on the second floor. Commands were given and two subjects came downstairs, identified as Vela and another resident,” Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Sara Balmes said.
