A drunk driver was arrested after his passenger was killed following a single-vehicle crash near Woodstock Saturday evening.
Marengo Fire Rescue, Woodstock Fire Rescue and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office were called at 7:39 p.m. to Vermont Road and Kishwaukee Valley Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Sheriff’s officials said that a Hyundai Velostar was driving westbound when it went off the road and crashed into a tree.
The passenger, a 29-year-old woman from Rockford, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Jose Loredo, 30, of Rockford, was arrested and later taken to Centegra Hospital – Huntley where he was evaluated. Loredo has been charged with driving under the influence, aggravated driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
The McHenry County Coroner’s Office said that an autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon. The identity of the woman killed is being withheld pending notification to family.
The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
