Two Mundelein High School students were arrested on Sunday after a photo was posted on Snapchat of a gun with the caption of, “Mundelein ain’t ready for this.”
Juan Bello, 18, of the 800 block of Walnut Street in Mundelein, and an unnamed juvenile, were arrested on Sunday. Bello was charged with a class 4 felony. Both have also been removed from the school.
Police said that both of the students admitted to it but they told police they never intended to harm anyone.
Officials said that on Saturday a picture was posted on Snapchat of a gun with the caption “Mundelein ain’t ready for this.” The gun in the picture was later recovered and determined to be fake.
“This is a time for all of us as a school and a community to keep our eyes and ears open and to report any suspicious messages or actions,” Mundelein High School Superintendent Kevin Myers said.
Classes are being held as usual following the threat. Extra police will be present at the school and all doors to the school will be locked except the main entrance.
