A drunk driver is being held on an $80,000 bond after his passenger, a 29-year-old Rockford woman, was killed following a single-vehicle crash near Woodstock Saturday evening.
Marengo Fire Rescue, Woodstock Fire Rescue and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office were called at 7:39 p.m. to Vermont Road and Kishwaukee Valley Road in unincorporated Woodstock for a report of a single-vehicle crash.
Sheriff’s officials said that a Hyundai Velostar was driving westbound when it went off the road and crashed into a tree.
The passenger, 29-year-old Rockford woman Ilian Gonzalez, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Jose Loredo, 30, of Rockford, was arrested and later taken to Centegra Hospital – Huntley where he was evaluated.
An autopsy performed on Monday showed that Gonzalez died from blunt force trauma to the head from the crash, the McHenry County Coroner’s Office said.
Loredo has been charged with driving under the influence, aggravated driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash. He is currently being held in the McHenry County Jail on an $80,000 bond. Loredo is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
