McHenry police announced on Tuesday that a man has been arrested after he shot himself and a relative during a domestic disturbance in January.
William R. Chrisman, 36, of 5113 West Home Avenue in McHenry, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated domestic battery and domestic battery.
Police were called on January 15 at 12:47 a.m. to 5113 West Home Avenue in McHenry for a report of a domestic disturbance. Officers arrived and found two people inside the residence who were shot.
McHenry Police Chief John Birk said that Chrisman and a 32-year-old female were transported by ambulance to Centegra Hospital – McHenry.
Chrisman was later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of his injuries. The injured female was treated and released from Centegra the morning of the shooting, police said.
Two children, an 11-year-old and an 8-year-old, were in the home during the shooting but were not injured, officials said.
The McHenry Police Department said that Chrisman shot the female relative and then shot himself. No additional details were released by police about the incident.
Chrisman is being held in the McHenry County Jail while he awaits a bond hearing. Police said the shooting was isolated to the home and there was no danger to the public.
