A man in Round Lake Park barricaded himself inside a home after attacking two people and ‘extensively damaging’ the house with a hammer, police said.
Police were called at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Model Court in Round Lake Park for a report of a domestic dispute.
The female homeowner told police that Jason D. McSorley, 43, of the 1400 block of Cedar Lake Road in Round Lake, was inside the house possibly armed with a handgun and a grenade.
Officials said that McSorley attacked the woman and choked a 69-year-old man before then causing ‘extensive damage’ to the inside of the home with a hammer.
The residents of the house were evacuated and a perimeter was established by police. The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (NIPAS) Emergency Services Team was called to the scene.
After numerous attempts were made to negotiate with McSorley, a SWAT team made entry into the home, police said. McSorley locked himself in a bathroom and then started a fire. SWAT team members forced entry into the bathroom and tazed him.
The fire was extinguished and McSorley was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with self-inflicted cuts and abrasions. His injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Police said that charges are pending against the man.
