A 62-year-old woman is dead after a crash involving a sedan and a Comcast work van in Waukegan Tuesday morning.
Emergency crews were called at 9:15 a.m. to Pulaski Drive and Waukegan Road in Waukegan.
Police said that a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was driving westbound on Pulaski Drive and a 2008 Ford Econoline van was driving northbound on Waukegan Road when the two collided in the intersection. Both vehicles were only occupied by their drivers.
The driver of the Ford Econoline Van, a 27-year-old Gurnee man, was wearing his seatbelt and only suffered minor injuries. He was transported to an area hospital where he was treated and released. The vehicle the man was driving was a Comcast work van.
The driver of the Pontiac, 62-year-old Waukegan woman Cynthia Mallett, was not wearing her seatbelt during the crash and suffered serious injuries. She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was pronounced dead.
The Lake County Coroner confirmed that Mallett died from multiple traumatic injuries suffered during the crash. Toxicology results are pending.
“Ms. Mallett’s family has been notified and our sincerest condolences go out to them,” Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said.
No citations have been issued so far. The crash remains under investigation by the Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division. Any witnesses to this crash are asked to call Sergeant Roush of the Waukegan Police Department’s Traffic Division at 847-599-2630.
