The Cary Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the driver who hit a 72-year-old woman in a grocery store parking lot over the weekend and then fled the scene.

Emergency crews responded at 4 p.m. on Saturday to the parking lot of Jewel-Osco, 696 Northwest Highway in Cary. Police said that a woman driving a gold Jeep SUV struck a 72-year-old woman in the parking lot and then fled the scene several minutes later before police arrived.

The suspect is described as a white female in her 60s with long sandy hair and glasses. The Jeep’s license plate was similar to that of A33306, police said. She was last seen driving away on Route 14 westbound.

The 72-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. The incident remains under investigation by the Cary Police Department.
