A Round Lake Park woman died Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in Volo, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
Emergency crews were called at 12:23 p.m. Wednesday to Route 120 and Ellis Drive in Volo for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries. Police arrived and found off-duty paramedics performing CPR on one of the victims, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sara Balmes said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that a red SUV, driven by a 55-year-old woman from Gurnee, was driving eastbound on Route 120 west of Ellis Drive. For an unknown reason, a white sedan, driven by a 24-year-old woman from Round Lake Park, entered the eastbound lanes of Route 120 and was struck by the red SUV.
The 24-year-old Round Lake Park woman was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The 55-year-old Gurnee woman was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The identification of the deceased is being withheld pending positive identification and notification of her next of kin. The Lake County Coroner’s Office scheduled an autopsy for this morning,” Sgt. Balmes said on Thursday.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
