One firefighter was injured and 19 garages were destroyed during a 2nd alarm fire in Round Lake Beach Monday evening, officials said.
Emergency crews were called at 5:39 p.m. to a report of multiple garages on fire at 1490 West Spring Brook Court in Round Lake Beach.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District arrived at the scene and found multiple garages on fire. They utilized the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS), eventually upgrading to a 2nd alarm which brought in firefighters from as far as Wheeling.
The fire destroyed 19 garages, which are detached from the buildings but attached together, and caused over $300,000 in damage, the fire district said. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for treatment due to smoke inhalation but has since been released.
According to the Chicago Tribune, fire officials said that the fire was possibly caused by an electrical issue. The fire remains under investigation.
