Libertyville police arrested a Waukegan man who had a loaded gun in his car and no FOID card during a traffic stop early Monday morning.
Montrael D. Thomas, 33, of 1429 Glen Rock Avenue in Waukegan, was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon, driving on a suspended license, operating an uninsured vehicle and having improper vehicle lighting.
The Libertyville Police Department said that Thomas was pulled over by police in the parking lot of the Shell gas station at 1207 West Park Avenue after he was seen driving with only one headlight. He did not give police a driver’s license and a records check showed his driver’s license was suspended, authorities said.
Thomas was arrested and police began an inventory search of the car before it was towed. During the search they found a loaded gun in the center console. Authorities said that Thomas did not have a FOID card.
According to court records, Thomas has a history of traffic and criminal cases against him.
Thomas was processed at the Libertyville Police Department and then transported to the Lake County Jail for a bond hearing. He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 30.
