A 72-year-old Woodstock man, who was a local business owner, was identified as the man killed in a motorcycle crash on Sunday in Woodstock, officials said.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District, Marengo Rescue and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office were called at 11:05 a.m. on Sunday to a report of a motorcycle crash near Kishwaukee Valley Road and Vermont Road in unincorporated Woodstock.

McHenry County Coroner Dr. Anne Majewski said on Monday that Donald E. Hansen, 72, of Woodstock, was identified as the man killed in the crash.

Hansen was driving a 2006 Harley Davidson Softail Deluxe motorcycle eastbound on Kishwaukee Valley Road west of Vermont Road when he drove off the right side of the curved roadway, sheriff’s officials said.

The motorcycle traveled through the ditch, up over Vermont Road and came to rest on the east side of the road. officials added. Authorities said that Hansen, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected and suffered serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed on Monday showed that Hansen died from blunt trauma to the head.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said that the motorcycle had no mechanical issues and that Hansen’s driving abilities were believed to have contributed to the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Hansen leaves behind a wife, two children and three grandchildren, according to the Northwest Herald. He owned Don Hansen’s Alignment and Auto Service in McHenry.

The crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Unit and McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
