Authorities are still investigating the death of a 55-year-old Wauconda man who was found dead in a pond Saturday morning.

Emergency crews responded to a 911 call around 9:40 a.m. on Saturday for a report of a man found face down in a detention pond in the 28100 block of North Garland Road in unincorporated Wauconda, which is north of Bangs Lake and northeast of Cook Memorial Park.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that a neighbor found David Rutherford, 55, of Wauconda, wearing only shorts, face down in about a foot of water. Rutherford was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sara Balmes said that officials don’t believe there’s any reason for people to be concerned because there doesn’t appear to be anything criminal about the death.

An autopsy was performed on Monday but Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper said that preliminary results are pending toxicology results.
