A Park City man wanted in a juvenile sexual assault case was captured last Thursday after fleeing to Texas, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team and U.S. Marshals apprehended Jose H. Aponte, 38, of the 3300 block of Eric Boulevard in Park City, on Thursday, officials said.
Aponte was wanted on a felony warrant for one count of predatory criminal sexual assault and four counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. The warrant was issued after Park City police detectives began investigating a report that Aponte had committed and engaged in sexual conduct with a juvenile, Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Sara Balmes said.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals were unable to locate Aponte after the warrant was issued on April 11. They learned Aponte fled to Killeen, Texas to avoid being caught by police, officials said.
U.S. Marshals arrested Aponte as he left a retail store in Killeen, Texas while he was approaching his car. Aponte was transported to the Bell County Sheriff’s Office in Texas where he remains held pending an extradition hearing.
