Federal and local authorities busted a Hawthorn Woods man who allegedly purchased over 2,800 Tramadol pills over the internet, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
Randall T. Swansen, 41, of the 0-100 block of Foxtail Road in Hawthorn Woods, was arrested and charged on May 9 with felony unlawful possession of a controlled substance following an investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Christopher Covelli said that Swansen was illegally buying Tramadol, a schedule IV prescription medication, over the internet. Overseas companies were mailing Swansen packages of Tramadol tablets, Covelli said.
During a search warrant on May 9 at Swansen’s residence, over 700 Tramadol tablets were seized and the man was arrested. Since May 9, authorities have intercepted additional packages containing over 2,100 tablets of Tramadol.
Swansen has since been released from the Lake County Jail after posting 10% of his $20,000 bond.
