Two people were taken into custody from an Antioch home Wednesday afternoon after authorities said that a driver rammed a police car and fled during a traffic stop.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that Antioch police were called to a report of a suspicious white Volkswagen at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was occupied by a man and woman in the 400 block of Donin Road. The driver rammed into an Antioch police squad car during the traffic stop and then sped away, according to police.
Officials said that at one point the passenger in the vehicle pointed a long-barrel gun outside the window and fired a gunshot; however, no injuries were reported. The vehicle was later found in the 40500 block of North Route 83 in Antioch. A major police presence was seen around the house as authorities had setup a perimeter.
Following the eight hour standoff, police said two suspects had been taken into custody.
All District 34 schools and Lake Villa District 41 schools were put on soft lockdown, and the Metra North Central Service line was impacted because of the incident. Route 83 has since been reopened to traffic.
Charges are pending against the suspects, authorities added.
