A woman who fled police in Gurnee and crashed into a fire truck was shot and killed by officers after brandishing a long-barreled gun Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

A heavy police presence was seen on Route 41 near Grand Avenue in Gurnee Wednesday after an officer-involved shooting. Police were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle and found an occupied vehicle with both a man, who was unconscious from a possible heroin overdose, and woman inside.

Officers were talking with the woman in the car as paramedics were arriving when the woman tried fleeing from police. She crashed into a fire truck and continued to drive off from the scene. Police chased the car to Chittenden Park where she crashed in a wooded area and then ran on foot.
