The 62-year-old Mount Prospect woman killed in a Memorial Day motorcycle crash in North Barrington was identified as Deborah Platz, a longtime school district employee who was just days away from retirement.

Emergency crews were called at 11:57 a.m. Monday to a report of a motorcycle crash with injuries near the area of Miller Road and Oak Hill Road in North Barrington.

Lake County Sheriff’s spokesman Christopher Covelli said that a 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by 62-year-old Peter Platz of Mount Prospect, was traveling westbound on Miller Road. The motorcycle was approaching the curve in the roadway just east of Oak Hill Road when he lost control and struck the curb, Covelli added.

Peter and his wife, Deborah, were ejected from the motorcycle. She was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries where she was later pronounced dead. Peter has since been treated and released from Advocate Condell Medical Center.

Police said that both of them were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. An autopsy performed on Tuesday showed that Deborah died from multiple traumatic injuries from the crash.

Deborah was an employee of River Trails School District 26 in Mount Prospect for 29 years. She was planning on retiring at the end of this school year, a district official said.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
