An Island Lake man suffered life-threatening injuries after he drove off the roadway and hit a tree in unincorporated Wauconda Thursday, police said.
The Wauconda Fire District and Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called at 11 p.m. for a report of a car that struck a tree near West Ivanhoe Road and West Brown Road in unincorporated Wauconda.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said that sheriff’s deputies found a 2018 Subaru WRX that struck a tree and had “extensive damage.” The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old man from Island Lake, was unconscious and trapped inside the car.
Firefighters and paramedics extricated the man and he was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries.
Lake County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Covelli said that the driver was traveling northbound on West Brown Road. The driver, for an unknown reason, kept going straight at the curve in the road and drove off the roadway, striking a tree. No other vehicles were involved and there were no passengers in the vehicle, Covelli said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
