The Waukegan Fire Department said that rescuers Sunday morning recovered the body of a young boy who went missing Saturday night in Lake Michigan.

Emergency crews were called Saturday evening at 10:30 p.m. for a search of a missing person near the Waukegan Municipal Beach. The search was called off due to poor conditions after about two hours, fire officials said.

On Sunday morning at 9 a.m., the Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department resumed the search along with units and equipment from fire departments in Lake and McHenry counties. Divers located the young boy’s body two hours later.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy on the boy for Monday. The identity of the boy is being withheld until the autopsy is complete.

No further details were released about the incident.
