Police searching for suspect who struck and killed pedestrian in Antioch

A man is dead after being hit by a car in Antioch Saturday evening and police are searching for the driver who fled the scene.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Department was called at 9:30 p.m. Saturday to Grass Lake Road and Sunset Drive in unincorporated Antioch for a pedestrian who was struck by a car.

Emergency crews found a man, who has not yet been identified, on the shoulder of the road critically injured. The man was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead. The driver that struck the man fled the scene in an unknown vehicle before police arrived.

An autopsy of the man has been scheduled with the Lake County Coroner’s Office. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit continues to investigate the incident.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 847-549-5200 or Lake County CrimeStoppers at 847-662-2222. The sheriff’s office is also asking area body and repair shops to report any suspicious damage or damage consistent with this crash.
