Police announced on Tuesday that the vehicle that struck and killed a man Saturday evening has been found at a body shop in Antioch.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Antioch Fire Department was called at 9:30 p.m. Saturday to Grass Lake Road and Sunset Drive in unincorporated Antioch for a pedestrian who was struck by a car.
Emergency crews found a man, later identified as Brett Beckett, 52, of Antioch, on the shoulder of the road critically injured. The man was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he was pronounced dead.
The driver that struck Beckett fled the scene in a 2012 Suzuki Grand Vitara before police arrived. On Tuesday, police said that the suspect vehicle had been found at a body shop in Antioch.
The vehicle has been seized and transported to an evidence storage facility for further processing. No one has been taken into custody yet, police added.
An autopsy performed on Monday showed that Beckett died from multiple traumatic injuries sustained from being hit by a vehicle. Toxicology results are pending.
Police added that Beckett was walking in the road when he was struck. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit continues to investigate the incident.
