A woman is in critical condition after being rescued from her car that went into a retention pond Monday evening in Lake in the Hills, police said.
The Huntley Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department was called at 5:57 p.m. Monday to the 3900 block of Willow View Drive in Lake in the Hills for a call of a car into a pond.
Authorities said that a bystander pulled an unresponsive 34-year-old woman from the car and brought her onto shore. The bystander and a police officer began performing CPR on the woman.
A 19-year-old woman was also in the car but she was able to get herself to shore without assistance. Both women were transported to Centegra Hospital – Huntley. The 34-year-old woman was listed in critical condition, according to police.
Officials said that the 2003 Lexus sedan was southbound when it left the road and went into the water for an unknown reason. Divers were called to the scene to search for any other victims.
The car, which was about 12 feet under water, was pulled from the pond at 8:15 p.m. Divers did not find anyone else in the car or water, according to police.
