A 27-year-old man is dead after his SUV crashed into a tree and burst into flames Monday morning in Kildeer.

The Lake Zurich Fire Department and Kildeer Police Department were called at 6:30 a.m. to a report of a Nissan Murano that crashed into a tree at Quentin Road and Hidden Valley Road in Kildeer.

Authorities said that a witness to the crash broke a window and rescued the 27-year-old man from the SUV just before it caught fire. Police arrived and began performing CPR on the man.

The man, who has not been publicly identified yet, was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said the SUV was driving northbound on Quentin Road when it swerved off the road and struck a tree. Police are unsure of what caused the crash, and continue to investigate with the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).

The road was re-opened five hours after the crash. The Lake Zurich Police Department, Hawthorn Woods Police Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
