27-year-old Des Plaines man Marwan Hmadi was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after his SUV crashed into a tree and burst into flames Monday morning in Kildeer.

The Lake Zurich Fire Department and Kildeer Police Department were called at 6:30 a.m. Monday to a report of a Nissan Murano that crashed into a tree at Quentin Road and Hidden Valley Road in Kildeer.

Authorities said that a witness to the crash broke a window and rescued the 27-year-old man from the SUV just before it caught fire. Police arrived and began performing CPR on the man.

Lake County Coroner Dr. Howard Cooper identified Hmadi on Tuesday. He said that the man was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington after the crash and was pronounced dead.

Hmadi died of multiple traumatic injuries from the crash, according to an autopsy performed in the Lake County Coroner’s Office. Toxicology results are pending.

Officials said the SUV was driving northbound on Quentin Road when it swerved off the road and struck a tree. Police are unsure of what caused the crash, and continue to investigate with the assistance of the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) and the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

The road was re-opened four hours after the crash. The Lake Zurich Police Department, Hawthorn Woods Police Department and Lake County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene.
