The woman who crashed her car into a pond over a week ago in Lake in the Hills remains in critical condition, and her family is asking for help in raising money for her medical expenses.
The Huntley Fire Protection District and Lake in the Hills Police Department were called at 5:57 p.m. June 18 to the 3900 block of Willow View Drive in Lake in the Hills for a call of a car into a pond.
Authorities said that a bystander pulled unresponsive 34-year-old Roxana Romero from the car and brought her onto shore. The bystander and a police officer began performing CPR on the woman before paramedics arrived.
A 19-year-old woman was also in the car but she was able to get herself to shore without assistance. Both women were transported to Centegra Hospital – Huntley. Romero was listed in critical condition, and remains critical over a week later.
A GoFundMe account was started by a family member and has raised $3,400 as of Thursday evening. The following update was posted on the page by a family member:
“Roxana still has not woken up yet. The doctors have given her a short-acting sedative and are monitoring her closely to see if she can maintain her blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels.
When the sedative wears off, she is able to open her eyes and move her hands and feet. She is still on the ventilator to breathe. Thank you all for your prayers and donations! Please keep Roxana in your thoughts.”
Police are still investigating the crash. It is unknown why the car went off the roadway into the pond.
