A fire killed two dogs and left a home in Pistakee Highlands destroyed Tuesday afternoon.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was called at 11:58 a.m. Tuesday to the 5600 block of Meadow Hill Lane in Pistakee Highlands for a report of a house fire. Fire crews arrived and found heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the home and the roof.

The Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) was utilized to bring in additional firefighters and trucks to the scene to help fight the fire. Two dogs were initially reported trapped inside the home and were later found dead.

Live power lines were knocked down during the fire and ComEd was called to the scene. Smoke was visible from several miles away.

No one was at the home when the fire started. It is unknown if any firefighters were injured during the fire. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
