A Gurnee man pleaded guilty to attempted predatory sexual assault of a child on Wednesday and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Rodrick R. Linnear 36, of the 3400 block of Woodlawn Drive in Gurnee, was originally charged in September 2017 with four counts of predatory criminal sexual abuse and one count of criminal sexual abuse.
Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said the case involved Linnear and a girl under the age of 13. The sex acts involving Linnear and the young girl took place in Round Lake Park over a span of about two years, according to police.
Linnear was arrested last September following a month-long investigation involving police, the Northeastern Illinois Crime Lab and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Child Advocacy Center.
On Wednesday, Linnear pleaded guilty to attempted predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, and in exchange, all other charges were dropped against him during a negotiated plea deal in front of Judge James Booras.
Linnear has the possibility of receiving 50 percent good time credit in prison and will have to register as a sex offender when he is released.
“Some things that occur in our society relating to crime against the most vulnerable, our children, are inexplicable,” Chief Filenko said when Linnear was arrested.
Well there’s special place in hell for people like him. Nothing worse than a pedofile and home wrecking pile of crap.
