A Grayslake man has been indicted on multiple charges after police say he fled the scene of a crash in March in Round Lake Park that left a 65-year-old man dead.
Round Lake Park Police Chief George Filenko said thatย Steven A. Rosellini, 27 of the 600 block of Swan Drive in Grayslake, was indicted on charges of failure to report an accident involving a death, two counts of aggravated DUI causing death, two counts of aggravated DUI causing bodily harm and reckless homicide with a motor vehicle.
Chief Filenko said that Rosellini left the scene of a March 25 crash that left Walter Bajorek, 65, of Round Lake Beach, dead. Police said thatย Bajorek and his wife were driving southbound on Hainesville Road near Maple Avenue when their vehicle was struck by Rosellini.
The impact caused both vehicles to leave the road and strike another car. Police said thatย Rosellini ran from the scene but was taken into custody after being tracked by a police canine.
Following an investigation by the Major Crash Assistance Unit, an arrest warrant was issued for Rosellini on Wednesday. He was taken into custody on the charges almost immediately after the warrant was issued.
“Working with the victim’s family we tracked Rosellini within an hour. The family had been keeping tabs on Rosellini via social media,” Chief Filenko said.
“We were adamant about apprehending him today. The victim and his wife would’ve celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary today.”
Rosellini is being held at Lake County Jail on a $1 million bond.
