Two children were hospitalized Monday afternoon after nearly drowning at the Huntley Park District Stingray Bay Aquatic Center.

The Huntley Fire Protection District and Huntley Police Department were called at 2:50 p.m. Monday to the Huntley Park District Stingray Bay Aquatic Center, 12219 Lois Lane, for a report of a “swimmer in distress,” police said.

Huntley Park District lifeguards had pulled a child from the pool and were attending to another child when emergency crews arrived. The two juveniles, whose ages had not been released, were transported to Centegra Hospital – Huntley by ambulance.

According to preliminary radio traffic, one the victims was unconscious and the other was conscious initially when they were rescued. Both were conscious and alert when they left by ambulance to the hospital, according to police.

“No other pool patrons were involved. The Huntley Park District staff did a great job in tending to the juveniles,” Huntley Police Deputy Chief Mike Klunk said.
