The shooting happened near Four Seasons Boulevard & West Sullivan Lake Road in Lakemoor.

A Lakemoor police officer who came upon a suspicious vehicle turned into a police involved shooting that left a man dead Thursday morning.

The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force said that a Lakemoor police officer was on routine patrol at around 5 a.m. and came across an occupied SUV on a narrow gravel road near Four Seasons Boulevard & Sullivan Lake Road.

The police officer stopped the vehicle and made contact with the man inside. A struggle ensued after the man pulled a gun.

A backup officer arrived and the suspect pulled out a second gun, officials said. Police then shot the man and he was pronounce dead at the scene.

The two officers were not injured but they were transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The suspect’s identity has not been released. The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force continues to investigate.
