A man was hospitalized with serious injuries early Sunday morning after a high speed crash that split his car in half, Huntley police said.

The Huntley Police Department and Huntley Fire Protection District were called at 2:30 a.m. Sunday to a single-vehicle crash at Algonquin Road and Haligus Road.

Police said that a 1999 Audi was traveling at a high speed westbound on Algonquin Road when it struck a light pole at the northwest corner of the intersection, splitting the car in two pieces.

Firefighters extricated the 35-year-old driver from the car and transported him to Centegra Hospital – Huntley with serious injuries.

No charges have been filed yet by police who said that drugs and alcohol are not believed to be contributing factors.

The roadway was reopened at around 6 a.m. Police continue to investigate the crash.
