No serious injuries were reported after a garage explosion in McHenry Saturday evening, fire officials said.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District was called at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday to a report of a garage fire and explosion in the 400 block of Mineral Springs Drive in unincorporated McHenry.

Firefighters arrived and found heavy fire and smoke coming from a two-car garage attached to a house. Initial reports indicated that someone was trapped in the garage but it was later confirmed everyone got out before firefighters arrived.

The house is in an area that does not have any fire hydrants so water had to be hauled in using water tanker trucks.

Firefighters used two hose lines to stop the fire from spreading to the house but the garage was a total loss. The fire was declared under control after about 20 minutes.

Fire officials said that a man suffered a minor cut to his leg but refused medical treatment.

Surrounding fire departments helped cover McHenry’s fire stations while crews were working at the scene.

The cause of the explosion and fire is under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and McHenry Township Fire Protection District.
