A Wauconda police car was struck Wednesday evening by a 55-year-old Fox Lake woman who was intoxicated, police said.
The Wauconda Police Department said that Wauconda Police Officer Peter Bognar was assisting the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on a traffic stop on northbound Route 12 south of Bonner Road.
Jane Fitzsimmons, 55, of Fox Lake, was driving northbound and struck the rear of the police vehicle around 10 p.m. on Wednesday. She was arrested and charged with DUI, and cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
“I would like to tell you, when you see a police vehicle with its emergency lights on, please slow down and move over, and don’t drink and drive,” Officer Bognar said in a video posted to the Wauconda Police Department’s Facebook page.
No one was injured but both vehicles were damaged and had to be towed.
Fitzsimmons has since posted bail and is scheduled to appear in court next on September 5 for an arraignment hearing.
