A young child who was hit by a minivan on Friday at Lindenfest, an annual festival in Lindenhurst, is in critical condition, police said.
The Lindenhurst Police Department said on Monday that a 2007 Dodge minivan struck a young child on Friday at around 7 p.m.
Authorities said that the young child was crossing Grand Avenue from Hillcrest Lane when she was struck. The girl suffered severe injuries and was transported to an area hospital by the Lake Villa Fire Department.
The girl, who was identified in a GoFundMe page as Leah Beth, has since been transferred by Flight For Life to Advocate Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
“We are asking all of our friends and family and Leah’s Facebook fans to please pray for our Leah Beth as she fights for her life. We believe in the power of prayer and that each and every one of you can lift her up for healing,” Leah Beth’s mom, Jenni Chambliss Dinchak, said in a Facebook post.
Police said that no one else was injured besides the young girl. The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) was called to assist in the investigation.
Police also added that it is unknown if charges will be brought against the driver of the minivan as the incident is still under investigation.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Lindenhurst Police Department at 847-356-5400.
